If my highschool charges for parking are they responsible for my car? |
My car was severely vandalized while parked in school during school hours. This is the 2nd year my school charges for parking and i have paid both times. They say the money is used for security and extra patrolling. I do attend a public high school and i do have other friends at other high schools in my city and they do not pay for parking. Vandalism is not at all common at my school but it did happen to me about $1,000 in damages. Is the school at all liable for what happened to my car? Normally not. They are simply renting you the space. Would a landlord be responsible for buying you new stuff if your apartment got robbed? No, he is simply renting you the room. That relationship creates no libility on the space owner's part. If I park at a parking meter in downtown (insert city here), is the city of X responsible for my car? The logic behind MY question is identical to yours. The answer in either case is NO, NO, and NO. This is a question for a civil lawyer - too many components to be answered here. Sorry for your troubles. no, you are paying for the parking spot not to keep your car safe i feel it should not pay. just a feeling. |
