Is it ok for a library to get your personal information? |
I recently visited my local library and wanted to apply for library card. When I went to fill out the application, it asks for name, address, phone #s, DOB, driver's license or ID #, and social security #. I'm obviously not putting down my social, but should I give my other info too? Its just a library card, shouldn't they just take my name, number and address? Yeah, I wouldn't give them my SS# either. I don't really see why they would even need that. When you return the application just ask them if it's really necessary for them to have it. They may say no and that you can leave that part blank. You're very welcome and thank you!! 鈾? Report It You are not required to furnish your SSN and they are only allowed to request it. That definitely doesn't sound like something that is really needed. Ask the person in charge why such a thing is needed and if he doesn't give in, then just go to another library. |
