Social Security Disibility question?

I'm in the process of applying for disibility, which I know will take FOREVER, but I really don't care. I'm prepared to retain a lawyer and all that good stuff.
My question is, that if I enroll in a Master's program at an online college will that hurt my claim? Will they say, "well, if she can go to school then she can work."
I want to go to school so badly and have the chance to go for the first time in forever, and probably won't have another chance anytime soon, but at the same time I don't want them to deny me simply because I'm in school.
If it matters, I'm applying because of PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety.

To answerer #2...I'm kind of just wasting money. I want a PhD so that I can eventually become a college professor. But I can't get a doctorate without the master's. The master's may help me some, but it's still not my ultimate goal.

When you get to the questions about getting SS, they will ask this question, plus they will say something like, if you can work what kind of job can you do. A person who specializes in jobs for all kinds of people will then list many jobs you could do even with your mental issues, so being able to go to college, I think will look bad for you because being able to concentrate enough to take tests and study shows that you are not disabled. Also if you are under 50 years old, that is another thing they will hold against you because the closer you are to age 62, the more likely you will get it. I suggest you inquire with a lawyer now about your chances of getting it. Find a lawyer who has a very good track record of winning cases for ss disability.

I don't know about a Master's, ask your attorney. But I went to community college while waiting for approval for my disability claim. I don't recall them asking me if I was in college. They did ask if I was employed, and I was able to honestly tell them No.

I'm 33 and have bipolar disorder.

And yes, it takes forever and a day! Start to finish, it took me 2 yrs to get mine approved.

A master's program requires a lot of the skills and ability to work that a job does, so don't expect much luck in your application. There are programs for people with disabilities to further their education. Check with your state or local/regional disability support offices and organizations.

SSDI and SSI can offer that support, but it is a jungle.

Ask your lawyer first before enrolling and CPA they can tell you the real answers.

If you can go to school whether it be online or not then after your finished you can get a job right? Or are you just wasting money for nothing?

You are up against a double edged sword. One hand they ask you if you want to work part time and tell you it won't effect your benefits yet in the same breath say, "You seem to be able to do for yourself, therefore I don't feel you can be classified disabled. The sad thing is, the body can be broken badly but the mind is still sharp. I wish they would define Disabled with one meaning.
