My father has been taking survivor social security checks that are in my name for awhile, is that money mine? |
For three years now my father has taken survivors social security checks that are in my name. this has never been a considerable concern until now that he and I have had a considerable falling out and now i have moved out of the house a month before my 18th birthday. He makes over $170,000 a year but he has continually taken that money and spent it without regard to my future. I truly dont want things to be any more difficult between him and I but I am going to school in the fall and could really use that money as he makes too much for me to get any real source of financial aid and emancipation takes far too long. I just need to know who has the actual right to that money, and whether i can get it. , the money when you were living at home was for your support, it will continue in some cases, it is meant for your education if you attend college it can continue in there. Firstly, it is not YOUR money, it is money that the government supplied to your father, who was paying the bills and supporting you with it. It's not yours, it's for your upkeep. You are an expensive creature. By the way, if you're not in high school any more, they stopped when you turned 18. You are a minor so the money is legally your fathers to help with your support. The checks come in your fathers name to be used for you. Such as John Smith FOR Kyle Smith. The checks will come in your name when you turn 18 if you are still in HS. Survivor benefits end when you turn 18 or if you are still in HS they end the month of your graduation. No it is money to provide a home and shelter for you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. it's not yours until you're 18 and then only if you meet certain qualifications How can you make survivor social security? |
