What laws state that I have to give my Social Security number out? (USA-Kansas/Missouri)? |
I would like to know what the law actually says about having to give my Social Security number out. Do I have to by law give it out when the DR, Utility Companies, Cable Companies etc? I know that certain government agencies I have to give it to but the site isn鈥檛 specific if I have to by law give it out to any company that asks or says they require it. Don't give it to any company. Of course, no one will employ you without one. No one will offer health care; no one will insure you. You probably won't be able to get approved for credit; or get utilities or an apartment. Go to http://www.whatyoudontknow.com and you'll see you don't have to give it to ANYBODY! Typically, I believe, you DO NOT need or are NOT required to give your SSN to ANYONE other than government agencies. You're at liberty to do so - and I do when checking over the phone with my bank for information, etc. - but don't with cable companies, pizza deliveries, hair dressers, etc. i am not aware of any law requiring this. it is done as credit references to be sure you are who you say you are in order to get service provided by those companies. it is a identity theft prevention of sorts. it is good they ask for this informatin. it would suck if i used your SSN to get power in my home and never paid the bill, and then it shows on your credit, right? |
