Why does the name on my social security card have to match my driver's license in CA? |
when it doesn't in other states??? WA had no problem issuing me a license with my married name on it, but in Calif they won't give me one because my ss card still has my maiden name on it. How can states have such different requirements? Richard, I just renewed my WA license AND changed my name to my married name a couple of months ago during a trip up there. All laws and requirements differ from state to state. You really want to get into awkward twisted laws? Lookup gun laws by state, they vary so much it is ridiculous. I really have no idea but I think its ridiculous.. we live in the same country you would think we'd all be under the same laws... yeah... If you were to try to renew your WA license now, you'd run into the same problem. WA doesn't have anywhere near the amount of illegals asCA,for one thing Because each state is allowed to set its own rules for their state ID's. And at the federal level, it can get confusing if you ever try to open a business or apply for any type of federal permit....if the name you use does not match the name on your social security card, you will get your application back. its the law of course http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm you should get the help of someone qualified to help you. or you could just google it To make sure you are really you. And b/c the identification is suppose to be able to insure the government that you are not a terrorist. And b/c we are beginning to be a country of great control and fear and if we don't pay attention we may lose some of our civil liberties. |
