What to do with a "trouble" neighboor?

My upstairs neighbor continuously threatens to call the security personnel on kids from the neighborhood, which he calls 鈥済angs鈥?鈥?since when a group of friends ranging kids from 8yrs to about 15yrs are 鈥済angs鈥?. He is an elderly man, who gets bother by kids even walking by his apartment. From what I have talked to other neighbors around here, we are all tired of him; however, when we went to talk to the manager of the apartments she told us she could not farce him out as he pays his rent on time. The security from the apartment has responded to his calls recently and we have also talked to them telling them our side of the story鈥 want to know if there is any legal stances we as neighbors could be taking to get this man out of here as he has cultivated so much fear in the kids of the community.

I guess my question to you is, what is HE actually doing to YOU? By your statement, nothing.

You have not provided any examples of what he is doing to the kids, making them fear him, besides calling security.

Just be lucky he is not calling the police.

Nope, unless his complaints are frivolous, or wrong there is nothing you can do. Also, what you have to understand is there are lots of people that love their peace and quiet , I am one of them, so if the kids are to loud, or noisy, in the apartment complex, then they need to slow down, calm down, make less noise, and maybe go outside and play instead of making noise close by him.

What's the point, rather than rallying for them, be a little more understanding to his needs, there are two sides to every story. How about making a truce, keep the kids away from his apartment, and he'll stop calling security on them.

Sounds like a win, win situation to me.. Sometimes you have to put yourself in that other person shoes. Think about it

I wonder if a charge of harrassment could be filed with the police since he keeps going after the same kids all the time and no one is being in any trouble I think it's harassment and the cops should have a talk with him to lay off..I'D at least make a report and keep reporting him.

another fearfull republican you can be shur

Hes not doing anything thats technically "against the law". Saying things or scaring them is not illegal, its just something that you need to deal with, because police or anything can not remove him.

Simple answer is no.

He has as many rights as do you and your children.

Ignore him.

You could move

I agreed with the first answer..
Not only, there is nothing legally you can do...but he cannot be forced out if he pays rent on time.

i dont know about legal stuff, but you could go sharson ozbourne on his tail and throw a ham into his space! i know how it is with annoying neighbors. go talk to him and try to explain they are good kids.

I don't know about the legality, but you could try reaching out to him. It used to be that kids who wore leather and spoke in certain slang and didn't have buzzcuts actually were gang members. He may not be hip to the new generation. Perhaps you could invite him over and get to know him. Let him get to know you and the kids. Listen to his stories and tell him about yourselves. Understanding breeds compassion. Maybe then, he won't think of you as "trouble" and maybe you can compromise about some of your differences. Like agree to a time of night when the noise stops, or at least get him to come to you directly instead of calling security.

Nope. Many of us grew up with a grumpy old man in the hood. Kids are wise to this guy. Give them some credit. And you can let him keep calling the police. Pretty soon they will be taking him away. <LOL>
