As a smoker, I mostly agree with the smoking bans except for the bans on smoking in airports?

Do you think it would be the end of the world for them to keep a smoking room within the security gates of airports?

Last month I had 1 hour between my 2 flights, I almost missed my second flight because I had to come through security again after going outside for a cigarette. There must be a better solution for smokers in airports.

Agreed. It's been a while since I've flew....Last I was able to do it was I think in San Juan, 5 or so years ago.

How about non smokers stop being preachy and answer the question; not give advice....man that's annoying! Duh! We know the health risk......

I agree, I dont see the problem with having a smoking room in airports. They could easily make it so that smoke does not escape the room (use 2 doors and a high power ventilation system.

i am irked by comments of "should stop smoking, its bad, its stinky".. guys, (this is a rhetoric question) what if a group of people tell you that your favorite food (eg: jelly beans) is bad for your health and the environment. let say when you eat jelly beans, you'll fart poisonous gasses. how would that make you feel? its call freedom to choose. we pay airport taxes and a large portion of us, if not the majority are smokers. smoking booth would be cool and its not that expensive. in stockholm airport, theres a 2 seater smoking booth at the transit room. i think there are smoking rooms in most airports that ive been to - except for pittsburgh and newark airport (if there is, i must've missed it).

It's OK to make accomodations for smokers where possible, but there's no reason to put smoking rooms in every single area of every single building. Smoking is not something we want to encourage, and making it difficult helps motivate people to quit.

You can smoke in the Houston airport and enjoy a Margarita while waiting!

lol, sorry...but, there really doesn't HAVE to be a better soultion for smokers in the airports. How about quitting and making a better solution for your health? :D

I say if the airport does not allow smokers to smoke in the security area, they should ban alcohol too.

They have a smoking area or "Lounge" in the Atlanta airport. There is 1 designated smoking area at each concourse. I've also seen them in other airports. Next time look up a map of the airport concourses to find out where the designated areas are, or ask somebody who works there, if they have a designated smoking area.

I agree - all airports should have them. I have smoked in the ones at the Atlanta airport. You meet good people in there!

Boy, some of these answers are dumb! How would someone having a cigarette in an airport cause an airplane to explode?

Maybe you should view the FACT that you can't physically go without a "puff" as a sign that you have become a drug addict and are no longer capable of controlling your body.

Personally... I'd be mad at myself for allowing something so pathetic to happen to myself. Maybe you should worry more about QUITTING... thant bitching that your drug addiction isn't being "accomodated".
