How much can a private detective find out about a person?

And are they able to obtain your social security number & use that to get your private medical records? Is that legal for them to do & how can i prevent them from finding out private information about me?

I am hiding from a guy & i dont want him to know anything personal about me from now on including future medical records for reasons i wont disclose. It does not matter if i have something to hide or not. People like their privacy especially when it comes to private medical records ect. I just like to lead a quiet exclusive life. Nothing wrong with that

With so much info out there floating around, who needs a PI? Just hop on your computer and, for a fee, you can find out almost anything you want! The IRS screwed up and put SS#'s on the OUTSIDE of peoples mail just recently. Private info is no longer private. It's the world we live in. There are agencies out there that guarantee your privacy. (LifeLock.com is one that comes to mind, with their 1million $$ guarantee.) Identity theft is out of control for this very reason.

The first thing they are going to get is your Social Security number! From there they get all of your public records and credit reports. They will also do an internet search - mentions in a newspaper or newsletter or anything else.

Depending on who hired the investigator and for what reason and how much they are willing to spend, they will call employers/former employers, schools & colleges, banks and creditors, etc. and may use pretexts to gain info. They can check driver's license records, vehicle registrations, property records at town hall, criminal records, and more. If really serious, they can tail you, interview your neighbors, former classmates, orther family members, and more.

If you are concerned about your privacy, preventing identity theft , protecting yourself from stalkers, and such, there are some books available, such as JJ Luna's "How to Be Invisible."

If you have committed any crime or are in debt, this won't help -- nothing will.

pretty much anything and everything, legally they have no legal rights beyond what's reasonable given what they are investigating and why. The person/s who hire the private investigators are mostly liable unless the private investigator was acting on their own. If you can prove that the investigator and the hire obtained illegal personal information or by illegal means, then you've got them , and you have a win-able case. There are privacy laws, but it does depend more often on what they are investigating and if it truly warranted anything, usually a serious crime like murder or sexual attacks. All others are debatable.

Actually quite alot im pretty sure though it should be illegal in my opinon it's invasion of privacy though if your trying to get one on your partner if they have nothing to hide why would they worry about a private investigator, but yeah anyways they pretty much can find out alot but yes its considered illegal im pretty sure if the person goes after them but if its marriage theres evidence that the spouse cheated on them in court

Actually Medical is about the only thing they probably can't get, or at least they shouldn't be able to. Medical Records are considered Private between the Doctor and Patient.

Well they can get as much information that they might need for that certain reason so, why are you worried if a private detective finds information about you do you have something to hide??

to bloody mutch the is nothing private in this world now

as much as they get paid.
