Got caught shoplifting..? |
I got caught shoplifting at kohls today with about $20 worth of stuff. I'm 18 years old and a resident in California. I wasn't told what would happen to I'd besides that I'll have to pay $50 - $500 when a letter comes in the mail. Besides that does anyone know if anything is on my permanent record. I was only handled by kohls security guard.. No police were there. you've been a bad boy k the same thing happened to me. First off it will be on your record forever unlessss you go to court and pay them to take it off and you will have to give them a reasonable reason of why you want it off. Report It They might have entered your name in a database for shoplifters/dishonest employees that is shared among businesses. it should be.people like you drive up prices.the police should be involved.you make me sick.. This won't go on a police record until a complaint is issued and you are arrested. When the letter comes, read it carefully and see what it says. You may need to show it to an attorney. The store probably has video proof of the theft and has a period of time to turn you in to the cops. Since you are an adult, it would be on your record then. It was your first time so you got off easy. the next time wont be so easy! your lucky this will not go on your permanent record. Thank yourself that it was only $20 worth of stuff. Kohl's can bring civil charges against you, however, I think it a little ludicrous for them to ask for $50-$500 when all they caught you with is $20 worth of items. If the police were not involved, but security was, they can still press civil and criminal charges against you. If they do this -- check with your clerk of courts - do not pay the civil amount. Go to the criminal trial and ask to make restitution before the judge. |
