Can a legal resident who is not a US citizen register to vote?

I am a legal resident (green card holder) in the United States with a social security number and I pay taxes. (No taxation without representation.)I am a British citizen and do not wish to become a US citizen.

I believe a US citizen, living full time in the UK would be eligible to vote there.

I hope the people who answered this question all go out and vote in November. I asked the question because so many of the eligible voters I have spoken to said they would not bother to vote because they didn't understand the process or thought a single vote did not count. Whatever your political allegience I believe you shopuld vote, assuming you are eligible.

You are completely wrong. I am a US citizen living fulltime in England for many years, and I can NOT vote in England. I can still vote in America by absentee ballot.

NO! What part of the word Citizenship don't you understand?
What England does is of no concern to us. British SUBJECTS are not allowed the freedoms you as an alien have in the states.
My mother was a British subject lived here for 43 years. She refused to give up her British citizenship (RAF veteran) and never thought of violating US LAW.
You have chosen to live here and to pay taxes without "representation" no one is making you pay. If you enjoy our freedoms and job opportunities, I might persuade you to look into US citizenship, or go back to England.

A US citizen cant vote in the UK because the US is not a commonwealth country. Only citizens from commonwealth countries can vote in the elections.

Also, "no taxation without representation" applies only within context; taken out that context it means nothing. When you are eligible to apply for citizenship, which is a privellege, you can vote and participate in the elections. You are on the path to becoming eligible.

Well guess what. America likes to tax illegals when they can, and deport them when they get uppity. What makes you think they're gonna treat you with any more respect?

I really don't think you can. You have to be a citizen to vote.
While yes, you are legal, you're not a citizen. I don't' think you should have the right to vote on that.
Sorry.

Don't rock the vote. Don't register to vote. A non- U.S. citizen is not permitted to vote. In fact, it is a deportable offense in the U.S. A lot of organizations get a little too excited about registering people to vote, and don't inform the public that only U.S. citizens are eligible to register to vote or vote.

See INA Sec. 237(a)(6) Unlawful voters.--
237(a)(6)(A) In general.--Any alien who has voted in violation of any Federal, State, or local constitutional provision, statute, ordinance, or regulation is deportable.
