Is it legal to use a school parking lot to roll news papers?

Here's the deal. I have a paper route and the paper had us run an extra 500 sample papers today. So I ran the regular route, and then pulled into the well lighted school parking lot to finish rolling papers.
So the vice principal drives in saying he was called in by "staff" and security because they were "afraid"? Of two middle aged women yet...
He then told us not to do this any more.
Was just wondering.
Thanks in advance.

It's tresspassing.

Next time you have a special issue, drive to a mall or other well-lit area. You won't get hassled there.

Ask the board of ed, if you can do this. Bet they don't care.

School property is not like other "open spaces". It is considered private property when school is not in session. He was within his rights and you were actually trespassing (no matter what your physical makeup).

People have evey right to be wary of strangers, even middle aged females. Doubly so, on school property, where children would congregate. And I'm assuming you were in a van, which may have further seemed suspicious. Plus, for liability issues, if you or your helper were injured on the school property, they might be sued.

If it's a public school, then it's public property paid for by tax payers and you should be able to use it. However, it's possible that the city/town your in would say that it's not safe to use a parking lot to roll up newspapers so you might be breaking some kind of ordinance (you might get hit by a car, etc.). On the other hand the administrative staff does have a right to ask you not to use it too. It's their responsibility to keep the school safe for children and you apparently caused some concern. Maybe there's a nearby park or lawn space where you can roll?

The school principal is like a captain on a ship, they are god like.

At least they were when I was attending.
