What are the dimensions of a prison cell for a person in life imprisonment?

Is there even a difference in prison cell dimensions whether your in a local jail or in a high security jail? This is for a report I'm doing. HELP!

Well, my wife is doing a life sentence and her cell is 8'x10' but she shares that with her cellmate.

There are differences in cell size from state to state and from security level to security level. For instance, she was shipped out of state at one point while they were building a new prison and she was in dorms there. She's in medium security at the moment but is eligible for minimum in June where she would once again be in a dorm setting if she were to take it (which she won't).

In California the cells were designed for one inmate but because of overcrowding caused by unreasonably long sentences, and ex-felons being returned to prison for minor parole rule infractions (at a cost of about $50K a year) two inmates share each cell. Even brand new monolithic prisons are built the same: cells designed for individuals but used by two inmates. I'm sorry I do not know the size.

This is for level 4 inmates, not those on lower levels. Those people are stacked three bunks high in areas that were meant to be used for rehab programs.

There are lawsuits against the inhumanity. But, politicians are not changing conditions because they want to be seen as tough-on-crime even though it backfired and became dumb-on-crime.
