Reaaaly important?

im from new jersey, but i just recently moved to another state. i just got a job yesturday and when the employer asks for my drivers lisense to make a copy of it. i dont have a linsense to give them because nj passed the law that you have to be 18 now. i was only 17 when i left there, and never got a chance to get my linsense here. but the employers need a photo id what do i do! i really dont have any form of id, but i gave them my social security number will that be enough? i really need this job i cant risk it over something like this.

No, you SS card will not be enough. Do you have a passport? You can use a passport. Or you could just go down to the DMV and get an Identification card. Your new employer can even make a copy of the temporary i.d. card you get until your new one arrives in the mail. (That is how it's done in Cali.)

Apply for a license to drive in order to have a valid photo ID because it is needed in applying for work. You have no choice but to do it.

Tell your employer what you said here.

See if he can suggest an alternative - perhaps he can wait until you've passed your driver's licence.

He hired you because you were the best person for the job - trust that you have some value to him.

get a state ID card

I am assuming that you don't have a State Issued I.D. card, either...(it looks like a driver's license but is only an I.D....the Amish around here have them because they don't drive). If you had one of those you could give your employer that. You can offer your Social Security card and birth certificate to be copied.

The reason they need this is to confirm that you are who you say you are.

Just tell them you couldn't get one in NJ because of age and you will get one as soon as you can. Then get one.

Don't try to explain why you don't have one now. Don't delay getting one because that makes you look irresponsible.

Possibly a State ID card, Passport, Student ID might also be a substitute.

Most states issue Id's besides a license. Go to the same place you for license and ask to get a State issued ID for yourself.
