I was wondering can I still change my last name a year after marriage?

Ok, so here is the deal, I got married last year March 27th. When we got married I was rushed and had to hurry up and get my passport so that I could accompany my husband to Japan. So I didn't get a chance to change my last name. So we don't have the same last name. I would like to get my last name changed to his. I was wondering how do I go about doing that?? Does our marriage license have to show that I got my last name changed??? What about mt passport??? And my social security card??? What about my birth certificate?? Does changing my last name change all my important documents?? How do I go about doing this or is it to late??? And how do I do it while being stationed in Japan on an Air base??? Thanks for you help everyone!!!

Take in your marriage certificate not license. Show that to them and they will update it all.
First place to start is the Social Security office, than DMV, once you have that done, go to http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/fir... should help you on how to update your name.
Your birth certificate will stay the same, that won't change thats why its called a birth certificate.

Its important to have your name updated on everything cause if they question you have id that matches.

I would check with JAG there on base and should be able to point you in the direction you will need to go.

No. Like I said contact JAG there on base and they should point you in the local place on where you can go to do this.
I didn't change any of my information with my marriage til bout 2 years after I married. But was not involved with military. JAG would be helpful with that. Report It

Yeah, you can change your name at any time for any reason other than crime! In the US, it's typically a matter of visiting a specified local court. I'm not sure about on a base.
