Co worker sexual harrassment? |
I am a male security officer at my job another male has repeatedly touched/grabbed my butt. Once while bending over to pick something up he grabbed my hips and ground his crotch into my rear. I do have multiple witnesses. What do I do. It is unwanted I am a very happily married man and it makes me very uncomfortable having been sexually assaulted as a child. Am I over reacting? You're not overreacting, but don't give in to the natural temptation to slug him. That adds another issue to the matter and becomes a case against you. Most people gave you the right answer, but let me just add a bit more. File a written complaint with personnel or Human Resources (whatever it's called at your employment). They have to launch a workplace investigation immediately. If you don't get a satisfactory answer in about a week, file a complaint with the Federal EEOC office or your state's Human Rights Division (often under your state's Department of Labor). Either agency has jurisdiction. I've done these workplace complaint and I literally start within minutes of receiving the complaint. If your workplace doesn't fix it to your satisfaction, file the EEOC/Human Rights complaint. Same-sex sexual harassment is becoming much more common. If you have to file a complaint, the agency will investigate and supply an attorney for you. As a earlier answerer suggested, keep a journal on this. Also, you do need to tell the guy to stop, because the sexual harassment has to be unwelcome. You don't have to make a big confrontation out of it. Just tell him to stop it and never do it again--that's all. If your employer doesn't stop it and immediately start an investigation, you file the claim and you can receive monetary damages. Your employer does NOT have the luxury of delaying the investigation, either. The last one I received was at about 2 pm on a Friday. I had my interviews done by 4 pm. i would inform your co worker in private that his actions are unwanted.. and if they proceed you will inform your manager about the harassment... I would mention it to your boss. Regardless of whether you are male or female that is not to be tolerated. You should not have to feel like that at work. I am surprised you didn't beat the guy up. You need to say something. At your work they should have the information posted where you can call a toll free number and report it if you don't feel comfortable reporting it to your immediate supervisor. Get help. You have a valid complaint. Any type of sexual jokes, comments, or unwanted physical contact that creates a hostile work environment constitutes sexual harassment. You should get your ducks in a row by documenting what this guy did (write down date, time, location, what he did, and names of any others that saw it happen) and talk to your supervisor or your human relations manager. They'll tell you what you need to do to file a formal complaint. NO! you are NOT over reacting! you should tell him how uncomfortable it makes you feel and if he continues, drop kick his ***!! or you could take the responsible route and report it to your boss or the HR department As uncomfortable as it may be, you must say something to him first ..if he continues, then tell your boss, or HR department. If you are man...heterosexual...you probably can't do anything. We are the only unprotected group in the USA. |
