A web forum has my IP adreess posted and is accusing me of being a child molester.. Can I sue?

These are not kids trying to insult me, these are adults in a true mistaken identity..

I am having a hard time contacting any sort of web administration and i can not get the information taken down or respond in my defense without an acct that takes 30 days to activate..

how they got my ip and mistook it for the same guy on dateline nbc is I simply had the same username as a guy on the show on a completely different forum.. A very common name these days "p2p"..

i never got to use the names since i used a disposable email address and it seems sites security recognizes and i wasnt able to complete registration.. But The name and IP still remain in the member list even though i have no control in the account

if that doesn't work, or even if it does and you are still riled up, then contact an attorney. I am sure there are zillions of them in your local yellow pages.

btw, if you have the same ip address as some guy had on dateline (how would you know, dateline showed it?) and it is a temporary one, then one one really thinks you are associated with the ip address forever.

Not only that, but because of the way these things work, you may in fact located no be that far away from someone else who had or will later have that IP address.

the ip address is rented lent to you and it's extremely difficult to put a name with an IP, also you may share an IP with hundreds of people using a VPN or proxy
