Is stealing mail from your mail box a federal crime?

I heard that stealing others mail from their mail box is a federal crime is this true? Someone tried to do it in the past but the mailbox was empty at the time :D. So now i have a security camera focused on it.

The Post Office is a federal agency, so stealing from them would be a federal crime. They have their own Inspectors, who have federal powers of arrest.

No it isn't a crime to steal from a personal mailbox.

Once you drop it into an official USPS mailbox, it is a crime to steal or tamper with the mail. But once the postal carrier puts it in your mailbox, all that protection vanishes.

That's why I have a PO box.
