Are Security Guards required to have a liscense?

I have a couple of rent a cops at my apartment complex in CA , and the owners got tired of cars being broken into so they supposedly hired two security guards. They do not have like a security car , they show up in personal vehicles and just walk around in those walmart t shirts that are black and say SECURITY on the back hahaha. I confronted them after they told me to go inside at 8 pm , like thats happening. I asked them for their company or creds and they do not have anything.

So do security guards have to have an actual security corporation behind them and credintials or can any queer start bossing you around like that.

Yes i suspect them of thinking they actually have authority it is funny.

In California security guards are required to be licensed by the Department of Consumer Affairs. However a lot of guards do work illegally without a license.

If the guard works for a security company he/she is required to have a "Guard Card" and if weapons are used he/she is required to have permits for them. If the guard works only on one property and not for a security company they are required to have a "PPSO" license. In both cases the guard is required to undergo 40 hours of State regulated training and a background check.

PPSO is a new concept to me, but even so, I am not too certain that working without a license is illegal in all instances. There still appears to be exceptions, even to the PPSO provisions. Report It

Remember rent a cops are just that. They are not allowed to detain you or put their hands on you. Look for your state laws regarding security officers. I know in WA state they need to have a liscense.

No by law you need to be with an agency with a security licence anywhere around the world, you are given police checks and must have company insurance so these guys sound like they are pulling your leg. I guess you could wear a tshirt saying god and tell them to go to hell. i would let the cops know about this.
