Rights against security guards?

i got falsely accused of theft a while back, and was just wondering what the security guards actual legal objectives are? i noticed i was being followed by someone in their own clothes who gave me the physical impression that he was an undercover security officer (continually looking at me, following me everywhere i went, basically this guy made me NEVER want to return to the shop again) I was told to come back to the store once i had left, and the security guard patted me down and searched my bags, which i was sure he wasnt allowed to do so. I was then cleared as i hadnt stolen anything, but felt very bitter towards the security staff for their brash treatment. please help.

Any person not in a uniform as no right to touch you if they do its classed as assault.
A security officer does not have any right to touch you he has to inform the police he can detain you but he can not touch you.
