Social Security change when I turn 18? |
I am 17 right now and am still in high school. When I turn 18 does the social security switch over to me? But when I graduate high school and my college doesn't start til 3 months after will I continue to gain social security in college? I get my social security from my father passing away. From what I heard I think you may stop getting it after high school. I just need to be sure tha tyou continue to get it. yes you should be able to get ss because you will have to just send a letter of enrollment of the college you will attend to the ss office As I understand it, your social security stops when your 18. Period! My father was disabled and I received SSI. Mine stopped at 18. I believe you get it till 23 if in college fulltime but you may have to bring some sort of paperwork to the social security office to show you are in college. Contact them before your benefits are supposed to end. |
