Security Clearance -- FBI reecord check?

I am applying for a job that will require security clearance but I am worried about something. About 4 years I was investigated by the FBI for something but they never charged me with any crime. My concern is will this stop me from getting a security clearance?

If you were not charged with anything after the FBI investigated you, there should be *no* problem. If they would have found something to charge you with, they would probably have done so! Even if they had charged you with something and the charges were later dismissed, or you stood trial and were acquitted, there should be no problem.

I'm assuming this job requires at least a "Secret" security clearance, entailing a NSA (National Security Agency) records check; since a "Confidential" security clearance would require *only* a local agency check (sheriff, city or village police, State Highway Patrol, local Probate and Common Pleas court records) and *not* a check of FBI, CIA, ICE, IRS, etc., records.

What were you convicted of when they investigated. If you were not charged then you will def. get the job. Do not worry unless you did something wrong and you know it. + it is just a big name that FBI record, but it is same as casual In FBI thing you are required to give your fingerprints that is all.

If you were never charged it shouldn't matter. You can call the FBI and ask though.

Possibly. Remember this is a security check, this means they're not just checking criminal records, but your character also. This means they'll talk with neighbors, former employers, etc. Most certainly if they investigated you in the past this will come up. While they might not have pressed charges, the reason for the investigation could prohibit you from getting a clearance.
