How can we make social security safer?

How can we make social security safer? Seems like ANYONE, and i mean anyone, literally, can get a stolen social security number and use it to work in the United States. Can they not make something more reliable for us? like..example.

Have a special, card with PHOTO identity on it as your social security card. So therefore, if someone tries to get a job, they scan their card and makes sure its them. And have a special fabric inside the card that lets them knows its not a fraud. If they can tell if money is fake, surely they can do this with the social security.

Any suggestions?

Fingerprint would be great. And as for the photo thing, maybe renew your card every year and have your picture re-taken.

Get rid of it. Plain and simple.
It was 'supposed' to be a temporary thing, but we all know how government programs are practically impossible to stop once started. It's also arguably unconstitutional.

According to the SSA, "A person does not need a Social Security Number to live and work in the United States and does not need a number just for the sake of having one."
The only purpose is for the administration of the program, which is relatively useless.

Just gives me such a warm feeling of security.
Any IRA will give a better ROI than SS does, although if one really looks at the condition of the SSA it really looks like stuffing cash under a mattress will give a better ROI.

Some great ideas. I have always wondered how it is possible to work for any length of time using a stolen or fake SS #.

I don't have a problem with fingerprinting everyone and it being on the card. That way in order to make sure it is the same person, they could just fingerprint and match.

People change on a yearly basis and a SS card with a picture ID may look like a total different person.

Add a fingerprint to the card. Verify it at time of employment or request for services,

Umm. Let's see. At birth everyone can have their SS# tattooed on their foot.
