Social Security? What's up with that?

I don鈥檛 get it. My sister and I lost our parents on new years day. When we submitted their death certificates to the social security office, they said we weren鈥檛 eligible for anything. Both my parents worked hard and earned close to 100,000 in social security and we are not entitled to that? I personally think that鈥檚 unfair. Why not? Technically, it is our parent鈥檚 money. It bothers me knowing that my children wont get a dime of it if I pass away. I think they deserve it if I go. Why is it that way? Is there an alternate solution?

a child will receive there parents social security if they are a minor at the parents time of death
since a child/minor is unable to go out and make a living and pay bills the parents social security is to make up for missing parents income..if you are not a minor then you have the ability to support yourself and don't need your parents income to survive

Because it was their money and not your money. Surviving adult children do not get a death benefit, social security is designed to pay for one generation at a time, not two.

Why were they on Social Security all that time? And what you are implying is that you also want money that you have not earned/worked for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DUUUUUHHHHHH! I'll have some to please if I don't have to work!

Your parents listed each other as a beneficary, and by law that is all they could do. If you wish to leave money to your children, there are many options out there.

I'm sorry that you learned the truth the hard way. Social Security is one of the largest scams in history. It's truly sad that so many people will vote for politicians that support SS, but almost nobody knows anything about it. It is pure, unadulterated theft, for the sole purpose of buying votes from the elderly.
We don't need to privatize part of SS, or all of it, we need to eliminate it entirely. Who the f_ck is the government to steal my money for my whole life and only give it back if I am lucky enough to live to 65? It's an evil system created by greedy politicians.

Freedom for all is right. The SS (nice acronym by the way) works in a way that favors the non working people by leeching the working ones, leaving a nice cut for the government on the way. It would be a lot fair if the government keeps their filthy hands out of our pocket and we can send that money to investments that our children can enjoy regardless of when, where and how we die. Don't pay attention to the socialists, it's your parents money and you, as their son, are entitled to it. Not the government, not the SS couch potatoes.

The alternate solution won't help you now but it may help your children in the future. Don't vote socialists. Vote candidates that are for freedom, real freedom, less government.
