Social security number?

I went to the salon today and left my backpack in the car. When I came back, my backpack was gone (they left the expensive stereo system though :l). At first, I wasn't to upset about it, I could always get another backpack and get new notes and stuff from my teachers. But now I realise I had my financial aide application in my backpack and it had my social security number on it. I don't know what to do. Can I alert the government or something that my social security number might be used? How? Please help!

Contact the police and report it.

Contact the social security office and report it.

Contact the three credit reporting agencies to report it; they'll put a watch on your accounts.

I would go to the social security office and let them know what happen. they will tell you what to do.

You need to contact the SS admin ofice along with any credit card companies you deal with and cancel all of them.

Call your local Social Security office.

First, give Tonalc 1 ten points.

Second, do exactly as he said. His advice is perfect.

Now go do it, right now.

Call local police
Call the Social Security Office
Call the three credit bureaus and they can check for identity theft
They are Trans Union, Experian and Equifax. The numbers are on the website for each of them. Hope this helps you.

Yes, you should alert the Social Security Administration that your 'number' was stolen and could be used 'illegally' ... but it will probably be 'up to you' to keep checking your 'credit report' for anything that you 'didn't buy' and also for 'employment' listed for places where you have never worked.

Contact the Police and Social Security Office.
