Liberty or Security?

A few days ago i put up a question about Liberty vs. Security. Most of the answers were liberty. (which is more important?). Now i want to ask the persons that think security is more important, why do they think so?

My opinion is that both are important but if i had to choose between these two i guess i would choose security.

Well, security is more important than liberty. Look at what happened in 9/11.

Security.

Cause that way you won't have to worry about most things. Then when the time is right, revolution!

But seriously, I prefer security.

Without security you have no Liberty. If you didn't have people protecting our borders...and the people in the United States, then you wouldn't have the chance to post this question or walk your street without fear of being shot. Security comes first then you have the liberty to have liberty in everyday life.

Those who give up a some liberities to gain some security deserve neither

because they have been conned by a neo nazi president

In America, one should not exist without the other.

From the first day that we Iranian have created civilization for human being in the history, we have given a lot of weight for 'security' and then as you know we were the first nation that we published law about 7000 years ago an then we published the Bill of Rights and the First Charter of Rights about 2600 years ago.

The main reason that we have given a lot of weight to security is that the security from the Iranian point of view the "Persian Charter of Rights" is that Security is Like "breath" and the main element of "Life". IF a person, a family, a company, a society or a nation does not have 'individual security, personal security, family security, legal security, financial security, job security, social security, media security and all other related security; IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to establish a Liberty in a insecure society.

That is the main reason that no one is interest to invest in Iraq; why? Iraq is very rich in Oil; but there is 'investment security"; and tomorrow they may not allow US stay there; then all contract with US companies would be null.

You cant be free when you are dead.

I hope there is a balance between the two. FIRST this country has to be less potically correct. And you have to draw a profile between and identify the enemy.

We interned the Japaneese during WW2 to sort things out - unfortunate but we had to do what we had to do.

Remember the 911 attacks - were not carried through by blonde haired and blue eyed men like Timothy McVee.

I am sorry that I missed your other post, else I would have posted my response there.

Security is an illusion and the promise of security is a thin veil of deceit. Those who would trade liberty for the promise of security deserve neither. Ben Franklin said it better.

Keep telling the government how much you want security and you will get it in the form of a totalitarian government.

When the state security police start sending you off to some security camp for reeducation because they don't like the way you think or take away your reproductive rights because you don't have the right genetic background or you are not in the right income bracket, don't come crying to the rest of us because you don't like their idea of security.

When the state police get around to sending you off to the gas showers because you are gay, Jewish, Muslim, or guilty of some criminal offense, it will be too late for you to do anything about it. Below is the link to a few interesting documents
