Signing social security card?

How old must a child be, before they can legally sign their own social security card?

YES YOU DO SIGN YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD PEOPLE!!! Legally, you have to for it to be valid.

They can legally sign any time. For example, to get them a passport, they would have to sign it if they are capable.

You don't have to sign your Social Security card. Newborns are required to register right away.

You don't sign your Social Security card.
When a child is born in the U.S. the application is automatically handled at the hospital now.
When I was a child (Dark Ages) - I remember my mother handling the application when I was in single digits.

I wouldn't let them sign it until they get their first real job.

Reality is that their signature will change over time, mine kept changing until I was around 30 and I settled on the style I liked best.

You can always order a replacement card if you don't like your signature.

And I hope you are keeping the card in a secure place, like a safe. Children are often victimized by identity theft because the parents are careless with their social security numbers.
