Giving your social security to lawyer?

Is it ok to give your lawyer your social security number? Im fighting a traffic voilation.

If you're nervous about doing it then ask your lawyer for a receipt and also a consent form for both of you to sign that way you have proof as to why the lawyer wants your social security number and won't give it out to anyone for any other reason.
Your lawyer should understand why you're doing this and if not then tell him/her that you're nervous about giving it out. This way you're honest and up front with your lawyer from the beginning.

Of course.

I gave it my laywer they need for a reason I sure if you been dealing with this lawyer for a while they need for a reason you can always ask why.

Of course. You give it out for insurance quotes for crying out loud.

The SS# is hardly as valuable as it once was.

If you don't trust your lawyer with your SSN, then pay the ticket, do the time (if any) and get on with your so-called life.

Sure, if you want to beat the traffic ticket. I am sure the lawyer doesn't plan to do anything bad with you SSN.

yep

why would he need your social security number anyway that don't have anything to do with the ticket i don't think. I would not give it to him

Sure. It's likely that the lawyer is just filing his/her appearance on your behalf and s/he has to fill out the proper paperwork for the court.

If you have any qualms about providing the number to him/her, feel free to ask the attorney what s/he is using your SSN for. S/he should be able to show you where your SSN is being used. If you're still worried, you can also ask that your SSN be blacked out of any documents that the attorney is keeping for his/her records.

Yes. You have a confidential relationship with your lawyer.

yes that is okay....

if you don't trust your lawyer you shouldn't be working with him/her......
