School leavers now being employed at airport security?

Does it inspire confidence when U.K. airports are now employing 16yr old school leavers to be security. They do get the exact same training as all other applicants but wouldn't you want perhaps a bit of maturity in such a sensitive role.

I should point out that it is in fact the Government who allows this practice as the " overseer " of all airport security in the U.K.

your views....?

Considering most airport security is pretty ineffective anyway, it doesn't really matter. The real point of airport security is to give the impression that passengers and their luggage are being screened. It is mostly a deterent.

i dont have a problem with it.
everybody's different and they are probably considered 'mature' enough for that job.

Well why not? After seeing the t.v report about the atrocious staff at Birmingham airport I dont think they could do any worse. They slept on the job, too drugs and even sold them. Might as well give em a chance.

Totally unacceptable.
This country has become a laughing stock and a total joke.
School leavers are not at all suitable for this type of job.

I think a school leaver is quite capable of doing the job it is not a difficult job to do and the training will be about a hour
rub someone down look under shoes look in handbags what is the problem with that, you are overeacting to something and nothing. probably one of this countries better decisions

Hi,
I am somewhat amazed, if what you state is the case, and I have no reason to doubt it.
I used to work in a government "security" department many moons ago, and you had to be 25 or older, as only then were you deemed fit to make adult judgements as to characters and so on.
I can just imagine a grumpy traveller at an airport being stopped by a young lad in an ill-fitting uniform.
"I need to check your hand-luggage"
"Bog off, you little twerp"
I agree that it is silly, and does nothing to aid security
Indeed it makes it worse.
Fair play to young school-leavers getting a decent job, with applause, but some jobs are better left to those with a good bit more experience of life.
'Tis my view.

Bob

so long as they stop the bombers, i have no thought's on the matter
