If you have social security benefits are you allowed to work. I want to get a job but I dont know if I can?

I am about to turn 15 and I want to get a job but I dont want to lose any of my social security benefits.

I think it depends on what you are receiving it for. For instance my sister gets SSI for a disability...to supplement. I think it is a either/or for her. You need to check with your provider for the details. Be sure on this question. Not to say that you may not find it on Yahoo Answers...but I would call and talk to them my self if I were you. Since you are only 15...you will have to have you parent or guardian do it for you.

I think you mean SSI? That is called Supplemental Security Income and is different than Social Security.
You are allowed to work but can never have more that $2000 on hand.

You are 15 and receiving benefits? Do the checks come to you or to your parent "for" you? Do you receive the benefit because one of your parents died or because you are disabled? If it is because a parent died, you should be able to work without it affecting them monthly check. If its because you are disabled, you can work but there is a limit on what you can earn before it affects the benefit. Check with the Social Security Admin in the city you live.

You are, there is a certain limit to what you can earn w/out being penalized i am on ssi disability i have read about it it is a little deferent for regular ssi, check w/ssi.gov and they should have all the info. you need.
