How long can HomeLand Security detain a person at an airport?

I have a friend that went to pick up a package at the airport that contains money... Dont worry its legal money. homeland security has been detaining her from leaving since wendesday. Her background check has cleared. how long can they detain her?

by LEGAL money i mean.. the money is from an overseas bank account set up by her grandfather.....

Indefinitely, or longer if need be!!!

If she is legally present in the USA then they must bring her before a judge within 72 hours if they wish to continue to hold her beyond that time.

If she's here illegally she can be held until administratively deported.

When you say "legal money", I'm not sure what you mean. Large of amounts of currency moving through an airport is a pretty big alert for Homeland Security.

How long a person can be held depends on their citizenship status and the law used to detain them. It would be a good idea for you to get an attorney working on this for your friend.
