Why don't they let security guards carry weapons?

i'm a security guard and I feel pathetic patrolling around the building without a weapon.

not only do they not give us weapons to carry, they punish us.... if we bring our own weapons. we get fined something like $25,000 if we're caught carrying a weapon. its stupid, how am I suppose to defend myself if some punk wants to start something with me? at least let me bring a knife with me while Im patrolling

most states allow weapons if the guard has attended a 120 hour course on weapons safety and escalation of force.

Your company should pay for that unless they feel that they can always get someone to do the job without weapons.

Don't they give you a billy club?
If not the reason is because you are not a law enforcement official and if you hurt someone you can be charged with assault and the person can sue the company you work for.

If you have any trouble just call the cops.

Plus security doesn't pay enough to take those risks.

the reason . to many security gaurds had been shot by police , in mistake ,after report for help.

Legally, a security guard has the same right to carry a weapon as any other civilian. Remember that guards are not sworn officers.

However, the company you work for can prohibit you from carrying weapons, even if the government allows you to. This is usually for liability reasons: if you misuse the weapon, they will get sued.

well first thing I realized was you said "punk". Just like VPD's finest, you shouldve had better training in "handling" such punks.
thats some of whats wrong with people/punks these days.
to many people want to use weapons instead of a good fashioned *** kicking.
you decided to take the job, if u feel youre not able to access a situation using "police tactics" then you need to address your higher up.
"punks" get tired of the authority handling their position like they ARE the law.
instead of wepons, take a self defense class.

If some *punk* decides to start something with you, they WILL get you regardless of whether you are carrying a weapon or not. And after they do that, they will get a hold of that weapon.

May in your area it is not allow, but in most areas in the U.S., they can be armed after being properly trained.
