Is it illegal to work for to seperate private security companys at the same time?

i work for a security company and receive 40 hours a week and they dont hand out overtime which in result i need a second job with about the same hours but all the other security companys keep saying its illegal to work for two companys at the same time

Regulations vary from state to state. As long as you have a license through both companies it should not be illegal. I know of a few people here in Texas that work for 2 companies since for each company they only work 3-12 hour shifts a week. Being licensed for both companies is the only thing I can see making it legal or illegal.

I believe it is here in Canada. We have to have a license which states the company we are with.

I am not aware of any such law.

They just don't want to deal with the headache of having an employee working two jobs, half-asleep all the time, so they told you that to get rid of you quickly.

To be sure, next time you hear that line, ask them to point you to the law that prohibits it.

However, here (In Missouri) to the best of my knowledge, it is not illegal. But you would have to get licensed for each company.
