What should I do? Social security number printed on envelope.? |
I just received a 'village tax return' in the mail that had my name, address and social security number printed on the front label. Any thoughts on what I should do about it? Anything I need to worry about? It's not a scam...this came from the local Village tax office. Frankly, most of them have nothing more than a middle school level education. The public has no access to mail. That envelope would have been controlled until it was delivered in your mailbox. Therefore, unless someone took it out of your mailbox, there is very little chance anyone saw it. Sounds like a scam, it is possible that someone might have stolen your identity. It's your information and was printed on the front. Mail goes through many different places before it's sent to you....Anyone could have seen it. My advice to you is that you need to call social security. They need to straighten things out so that your identity isn't stolen...and hopefully it hasn't been already. Sounds like your village has more than one idiot. |
