Security Clearance investigation?

I currently hold a TS clearance as a govt contractor. My Periodic reinvestigation is due in 6 months. If the company I work for downgrades me to a Secret, will he govt conduct a PR or accept the current invetigation?
Since an investigation for a TS is good for 5 years, and a investigation for Secret is good for 10-15 years. (depending on backlog).

Most likely you will only be asked to update your background information that you provided. The only thing that can be negative is if you are hiding a police record or something. Because if they ask you to update background and you leave that out, they will take your clearance just because you left it out. And a police record is not a reason to revoke clearance unless it is major. I admitted to being a gay employee in The Department of The Army and still held a TS-SBI Compartmented Clearance. So, if you have nothing to hide, you will skate through as a secret will go to the bottom of the list other than an update of background info and a records check for arrest.

I wish I could remember the joke. It goes some like... I have held so many clearances for so long that the first thing I did when born was hold up a card and say "pardon me doctor, are you cleared for this area?"

First of all your company cannot downgrade your clearance..... only what is required for your job. So if you are happy with your job just leave it alone. If the government downgrades you it will only be asking you to update and reconfirm some info. No reason to expend dollars in backtracking.

But there is a grew area. Sometimes they will grant a TS even if not needed at your current position. Those who have been vetted might still have access (even if downgraded) and they can't monitor everything.

Much depends on much. Having enough TS people around can effect winning contracts. This is something to speak to your empoyer about. A TS is money in the bank as many companies will pay big bucks if you have one. I have seen people take a lower paying job just to get it. When they do they find another job and say "pay me more or I leave". I have seen many who jump up an extra $50K in a heartbeat.
