I have a question about social security fraud.?

I just recently went to the social security office and I found out that my mother is/was using my number dating all the way back to 2000 (Im only 17). I cant get a copy of my credit report because, its saying that im not me. what do I do?

This is potentially very serious depending on what she used your number for. If you have that type of relationship, talk with your mother. If you do not, you have to protect yourself. If this is your mother's first crime, she would not be likely to go to jail, but if she's defrauded the government, she'll have to pay it back. You are going to be an adult soon and this could hurt your credit. BTW-the first answer was good, but other options are to go to the police; to call your state's attorney general's office (consumer fraud division); to call the U.S. Attorney's office for your state or to call the FBI. All of these things will get your mother in trouble if she's used your number to obtain any benefits to which she was not entitled, so keep that in mind. On the other hand, you don't want to turn 18 with lousy credit that's not your fault. Miss, I feel bad for you, because you have a lot of choices, but none of them are easy decisions to make. Ultimately, you have to protect yourself, though. Obviously, your mother's not protecting you financially.

Have you talked to your mother? That would be my first step. If you want to get her in trouble, report her to social security. That is a federal offense and they will put a stop to it and possibly prosecute her. You can go online and order a report from social security that will show all transactions. It must be mailed to you, so if you live with her have it mailed elsewhere.

Call SS and tell them your story.
