Is there any union in the security industry to turn to ???

I am a security supervisor and we have no rights, we work 12h a day withow a single break !! no sick pay....

Being a "Securtiy widow" I understand -

Yes there is a security Union -

My Partner is a Security officer and yes I do know exactly what you are talking about - working 12 hour shifts days and nights and 1/2 day to go from days to nights and the other way around you have to "opt out" no overtime pay etc. - however there are security companies that do offer sick time but it is rare

I have seen somewhere - that they are trying to get the hours down and not to have the opt out and have put a link there for you as well

I have provided a link below to the union my partner is with and a site that is about your rights.

The union that my partner is with has been a great help its the first link - They have helped him in the past - not about hours but with something else and they worked fast -

I recommend that you keep a record of all your hours worked so that you can see what your average hours per week are -

I hope this helps :-)

Take care -

Probably the T&G

Does "The General Workers Union" still exist? If noone else comes up with a better answer, try looking that up on Google.
You would need to become a member of a Union if you are expecting them to act on your behalf.
Even back in the 50's our employers had to give us a 10 minute break after 4.5 hours work; it may be that came under the Shops and Factories Act which also regulated our working space and the temperatures at which we were expected to work.
Being a wrinkly is better!!

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) started out as a union primarily for people who work in building services and security. To this day SEIU still has such a reputation, although now nurses, public employees and educators are also SEIU members.

Work breaks are the law no matter whether you have a union or not. You can read about it on the US Department of Labor website.

In my experience though, many working people have their legal rights trampled on by their employers everyday--but enforcing it would mean seeking an attorney and that get's expensive. Power in numbers and the power of a union could be a more reasonable way for you all to address issues like this--and in the end fight together to improve your wages, benefits and working conditions.

If you are interested in forming a union at your workplace, the first step is to talk to your co-workers. You can't do it alone! An ideal goal is to have about 10% of your co-workers who are sure that they want a union and help do the leg work to form one at your workplace. Then contact SEIU with details--and be sure to include the total number of employees and the number who are willing to help organize the union. This helps!

if you are working legally paying tax and ni the you are entitled to sick pay etc
