Torture : To prohibit in view of security issues.?

In an ideal world it would not be necessary to prohibit torture, but since the real world is so different and that security issues are so hotly debated right now, is it okay to allow torture but in a very regulated way ?

Just to say that I in no way support torture but am just trying to brainstorm (got stuck !) for other opinions for a piece of work I am doing ! =)

I dont think so, torture is a crude way of retreiving information from and unwilling source. Also it is used by some just to make a point or just because that is what they were taught to do in there society. i got this off a website i found today and these are the most common in the world today.

1. Blunt Trauma: crushing injuries, whipping, beatings
2. Penetrating Injuries: gunshots, shrapnel, stab wounds, slash cuts
3. Suspension
4. Burns: chemical and thermal, cold and heat
5. Asphyxiation: wet, dry, chemical
6. Electric Shocks
7. Forced Human Experimentation
8. Traumatic Removal of Tissue and Appendages: via either direct avulsion or explosion
9. Extreme Physical Conditions: forced body positions (prolonged constrain) and extreme heat/cold conditions
10. Sexual Torture: sexual humiliation, trauma to genitalia, rape
11. Mental Torture: direct threats, sensory deprivation, solitary confinement, mock execution, witnessing torture, uprooting

Now tell me friend or foe if you would want to witness someone go through any of these things even in moderation, i wouldn't not even if they had tried to kill me.

Torture is an awful crude way of retriveing information, i know those guys we are fighting today are evil people and they have done evil things but no human should have to endur those kinds of things.

In an ideal world?? Are you one of the Cheneys??

If we torture so can 'they'!

Are you so immoral???

Karma will punish you and so will history

I think torture should be allowed if absolutely necessary. What if the FBI caught a terrorist who planted a dirty bomb in New York City? If he refuses to talk, should they just let the bomb go off? I certainly hope they would do everything possible to get the terrorist to tell them where the bomb is and how to disarm it.

they will torture and kill our people regardless of how much we coddle the enemy

torture them to save lives, kill the enemy wherever we find them

I heard someone say that Saddam was a "bad guy" because of the things he did, but that it was okay for us to do the same things because we're the "good guys."

How can anyone who can tie their shoelaces be so delusional? (I'm just guessing about the shoelaces.)

Who shall give a meaning to torture? Everyone is against the torture of terrorists, but has anyone considered what was going through the minds of the people falling off of the twin towers on Sept. 11, or the people watching as the floor above them fell on them. Of course you haven't otherwise your words would be STRING EM UP!!!.
Personally, I think you should get the information in any way you need to.. And then there's China who ran their mouth on the US. for ALLEGEDLY torturing prisoners. Ha, HA. Maybe they forgot all about the BATAN death march, Where they tortured AMERICANS to death . About 3000 died, or were killed .
Torture however is wrong, BUT may serve a very good purpose. Imagine a member of your family is captured, by a terrorist, and they threaten to chop off their head, and you caught someone that knows where they are, what would you do to find out. feed them a prime rib and coddle them, or kick their a** all over the place?
