Does any one here work in a maximum security prison?

I need a primary source for a research paper, If you work at a maximum security prison, i need to know your name, where u work, and specifics about the death penalty, such as how much it costs per year to keep an inmate, and how much for lethal injection.

There are other sources available to you. You can find out about the costs attributable to the death penalty at
www.deathpenaltyinfo.org (click on costs) and at
www.deathpenaltyfocus.org (click on facts and then on costs.)

There you will find links to primary sources. You will find that the death penalty costs much more than life in prison and that most of the higher cost is due to the legal process itself.

I can tell you that in my state (New York) it costs approximately $35,000-40,000 to incarcerate someone. In the 12 years when New York had the death penalty (1995-2007) 7 men were sentenced to death. 4 men won their first appeals and the state's highest court ruled that the statute was unconstitutional (largely for technical reasons.) The remaining men have been resentenced to life without parole.
I mention this to you because during those 12 years New York State spent $200,000,000 on its death penalty system.
Moving forward, we would expect that if the 7 men live, on average, another 50 years, the cost to incarcerate them would come to 12,25- 4.1 million dollars.

The primary source is the winter 2004-2005 hearings on the death penalty before the New York State Assembly Codes committee.

You will find similar information about California at www.deathpenaltyfocus.org.

Hmmm... you forgot to ask about the karmic consequences of keeping people in cages, most of them for drug offenses. An Arizona County jail prides itself on spending only 40 cents a day on each inmate's food and only $1.40 a day on each k9 dog food. Anything wrong with this? You forgot to ask why we build more prisons that schools, why we are more likely to incarcerate young black men for the same crime as we would give a young white man probation for, and why, after serving your time, you must have a criminal record that bars you from even stocking shelves at Kohl's, almost guaranting that you either reoffend or starve. Why, if we know drug addiction is a disease, do we imprison people for the symptoms of their disease (petty theft, petty dealing) rather than mandating hospital treatment and NO CAGE TIME? I think any correction officer who responds outta answer how he can feel like a man when he looks at another human being suffering in a cage away from his family just for stealing a bike or car. Money is king in america, forget about humans. Make a mistake, touch someone's property we'll throw you away forever!
