Someone has the same social security number as myself.

No it's not impossible. I just did a credit report on myself...and it told me that I have a mortgage loan active. My credit is far from good. So i know someone else has the same number!!

Credit reports are not as accurate as you seem to think they are. You can't conclude that the other person you found with that mortgage actually reported the same SSN as yours. Or, if he or she did, they just chose your number because they needed one. That's something you would need to take care of, and have corrected: identity theft! Not easy to correct.

But the government does not assign the same number to multiple people. As they explain on their website, they will not even reassign someone's number after they die.

No and that's not possible, unless you were a victim of identity theft. I suggest contacting the police if that's the case.

I'd have to say no, sorry. That would create a nightmare for immigration control, as people would give their old social numbers away.

Yes you can get your social security number changed. Someone has probably stolen your identity and using your number. You would have to contact the Social Security Office, and they should be able to help you out. It is difficult to get it changed, but if you qualify, then it will be no problem.

Um, yeah, I think so. But only if, like, you defend for the government and they give you one for your safety. (Federal Witness Protection does this.) Doing that isn't worth it. And I don't believe you can have the same social secuity number as another person.

No
