Social security will it be there when I need it? |
Everyone tells me I am paying in and I will never be able to collect because it will be depleted by my retirement age which is about 30 years away is this true I doubt Social Security will be the same as the older generation has today. The liberals have been passing/trying to pass laws to give your SSI to illegal immigrants. Don't believe it? Do a search on the net. don't count on it yes--but well be paying 60% tax's--you better start taking care of yourself -- it probably wont be there for us sad to say, so thats why you need to set up a 401k with your work if your work does not provide one you bank will be more then happy to set you up with a retirement plan. you'll never see it the way they throw it away, i wonder, but think it will be there in some manner for ya. all the illegal immigrants are slowly biting into it Not if the Liberals keep getting their hands into the Social Security fund. Yes, it will! My father, now just retired from working for SS, promises that there will be Social Security in the coming years, for our generation, so long as the government stops borrowing against the money within the fund. BUT, while the percentage of SS may increase from everyone's checks slightly (say, 01 or 02%), it's a system designed to not run out. :) It will not be around in its current form. You are paying for old people to live and will not enjoy the same benefit. no, just do what you need to do. they will have to figure out a different way to pay though, but don't worry, they will... vote wisely.... Well I am not planning on it being there when I retire and neither should you. Start your own retirement plan and hope like hell the democrats can't find a way to get their hands on it. Of course not No. Unless you do not save any $ in a 401K or work for the government! I put aside a couple of cans of cat food a month.Just to be on the safe side! That's what I heard in the late 70's. ask bush.....then again, he has probably never heard if social security. Present projections for me put the social security system in dire trouble in 15 - 20 years unless something drastically changes for the better. In other words don't rely on much as far as your retirement goes from Social Security. It was a nice thought when it was started but it has reached a breaking point on the horizon. THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE MONEY,but so There is NO Social Security crisis. If REPUBLICANS can stop "borrowing" from the SS trustfund in attempts to make their budget deficits appear smaller, Social Security will be fine. Undocumented workers who use fake Social Security numbers pay into SS.TheEMPLOYERS who HIRE undocumented workers are just as guilty of denying payment into SS as the undocumented workers. Check out nonpartisan sites like the ones i'll list below. The problem with PONZI schemes is that the last people in them are left holding the bag... Social Security will be there when you retire but it will not be as it is today at the rate we are going. Chances are that if you personally exceed a certain savings amount you will be exempt from recieving Social Security(Thats your reward for preparing for your future). At some point the amount everyone pays in for social security will have to go up or benefits will go down and since older Americans are more likely to vote-- then the amount you pay in will go eventually go up. There is also the potential for the benefits to stay the same but at the rate the dollar is losing its value it won't be such a good benefit anymore. If you want to ensure that your retirement will be there then do not leave it up to the government that way when you retire if you do somehow get some portion of the Social Security you payed in it will be like bonus money you never expected to receive. Absolutely. If you are "retiring" in 30 years, that means you are 37 right now, according to Social Security. It sounds like you are substantially younger than that. I am a current Social Security recipient, through one of their disability programs, and I can say for the small pittance i get each month(SSI is $623 a month maximum for 2007) and with their death benefit of $255, I would be quicker to count on an Individual Retirement Account(IRA), combined with a 401k at the work place. You should be fine as long as you learn the basics of investments and pay close attention. It will be there, our government just needs to stop stealing the funds now. 30 years? It is highly unlikely that you will ever see a dime. Money that you pay in to the system IS NOT put aside in some account for you. Most people have been led to believe that it is. The Social Security people even continue to send out so-called "statements" showing how much you've paid in, thereby furthering the lie. In 1937, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Congress CAN NOT do that. The monies collected are not earmarked for any particular purpose. Social Security is a federal entitlement program, found to be constitutional by application of the general welfare clause. However, Congress can end social security payments anytime it wants to and can continue to collect social security and medicare taxes. As of fiscal year 2007, the social security and medicare programs had actuarial deficits of 59 Trillion dollars. There are about 300 million people in the U.S. (of all ages). Now figure out how much each will have to cough up in order to cover that deficit. It will never be done. |
