When a person turns 65 can he or she collect social security and still work and is there a limit on the wages

can a person collect social security and still work at 65 and if so how much can he or she collect in wages and his or her social security payments not be affected ??

I know a guy he is 75 years old works w/ me he collects SS, 2 retirement checks, plus a check where we work. They still take out SS in your check if you continue to work after 65 even though your SS checks don't go any higher or lower...doesn't make sense but that's the government for ya

Yes, but if you earn over a certain amt that will reduce the SS payments.

You can collect when you are 62, and yes you can still work and there is no limit.

You will just be charge taxes on income.

the earning limits have been removed ... you get full Social Security when your age reaches the target level.

Note that this is now higher than age 65. See ssa.gov on the web for details.

The age for what is termed "full retirement" goes up depending on the year one was born. Those that reach 65 this year will not be affected. You can get free Social Security information at any Social Security office or online.

yes you can still work and yes there is a limit on how much you can make

When a person turns 62 or 65 they can collect social security if they have paid enough in to collect. If they collect at 62, they take a pay cut. If they wait until 65 they can collect all they have paid into. If they decide they still want to work part-time they can do that. I am not sure what the current limits are. But they can still collect their social security up to certain amount. I want to say 900. a month but I am not real sure of that number. So don't quote me.

Yes! as long as it does not exceed the $ amount restricted by the law,why do you think so many elderly people bag groceries and collect shopping carts,if you can and are able houseclean or be a part-time care-giver who caretakers really need help

A person who reaches the age of retirement, which seems to be on a moving scale these days, can still work and still collect Social Security. I am not sure where the formula is set at today, however usually a certain amount can be earned and then you give back one dollar for each two dollars earned. I have a friend that retired and collected his Social Security Checks each month and placed them in the bank, he continued working and made over the level of being able to keep any of his Social Security, so every Quarter he wrote out a check to the Social Security Administration for the entire amount that he received. He did this because he had Cancer yet wanted to be able to remain as active as possible. When the disease had him down where he could not work his checks were coming in regularly from Social Security. He worked into his 70's this way and when he found out that he only had a short time left he quit work and spent the rest of his time with his family. Living alone this probably added years to his life as he kept active and did not just stay at home and feel sorry for himself, yet he had the Social Security when he needed it. Many people after they start collecting Social Security work part-time to supplement their incomes or just to have something to do. The amount you can earn could be found on-line by visiting the Social Security Web Site as things change from year to year.

under 65 can earn 8100 a year, over 65 can earn 11000 and not be affected. anything over those figures, and they take away $1 for every $3 you earn.
(and you still have to pay into ss from your earnings, which makes no sense)
