Is it time to think about going above and beyond for student security at schools?

When I was still in school we had an assignment in which we had to find a way to make schools safer for students of all ages. Well here was my answer then and now.

1) First off, every single entrance/exit should have metal detectors.
2) There should be limited entry and exit points for student and facutly alike.
3) Every School should have mandatory uniforms. Not a dress code! Uniforms! How many students have been assalted/killed over their clothes
4) In school security. Every school should have uniformed security personell throughout the school, including inside classrooms, all day long. It has come to ths like it or not, students from 1st grade to college alike are bringing guns and weapons to schools. Would this cost a lot, yes, but how do dollars compare to students who lose their lives while at school.
Please respond to this and offer suggestions of your own, we have national institutes for workers safety, but none for the safety of our students. We need to change that.

I agree, and this would definately cut down on bullying and fights if we had security in the hallway
as a student we wear a dress code and i hate it, but if i was an adult i agree with uniforms.
we should have someone in the bathroom to prevent kids from smoking in the bathroom
the reason cho shot up the school is because he was being bullied (mostly) so i just think if we cut down on bullying and taught at least a Christian motive in our schools, kids would do less stupid things and would be lured away from drinking and doing drugs

The chance of being shot by a random gunman is 1 in a million. You can't run your life by worrying about such things.

How about getting rid of guns designed specifically to kill people? It wouldn't eliminate all gun violence, but it might make it harder for a nutcase to kill 30+ students. If we have to have airport like security at our schools, then something is serioulsy wrong in this country!

Unless a school has a crime/discipline problem I'm against your suggestion. This should be a local and not a national decision.

School uniforms won't solve shootings. If that Korean kid was in a school uniform at Virginia Tech, the same result would have happened.

You can slap a uniform on a piece of coal. You STILL have a piece of coal.

With uniforms, more time is spent inspecting kids clothes to make sure every minute detail is the same.

I'd rather make sure that time was spent on teaching about diversity in schools, and other human relations classes.

Banning blue jeans in schools won't solve bullying. With uniforms, kids still get teased for being fat, skinny, short, tall, red hair, glasses, speech impediment, or even by their name. If a students' name is "Lovely Roach", slapping a uniform on her won't stop her from being tormented by her name.
