About social security/disabilty?

If a single mom on disbality collects a benfit check, does her child also receive one as a "child of a disabled person"?

It depends upon what you mean when you say "Social Security/disability". People don't always understand that there are two kinds of benefits that might be paid to someone who is disabled and completely unable to work.

One type is Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI. This is the type of benefits that is paid to someone who is disabled and who has worked long enough in a job that was covered by Social Security. The person and their employer had paid into the Social Security System. The disabled person would get a check, and any children under the age of 18 would also be entitled to benefits. In addition, there are some instances where the disabled person's spouse could qualify for benefits.

The other type is Supplemental Security Income, or SSI. This is basically a welfare program that provides benefits for a disabled person who did NOT work long enough in a job covered by Social Security. For SSI, in addition to being disabled, the person can not have assets or other household income over a certain amount. There is no extra benefit for children or spouses if the person is receiving SSI.

Hope this helps.

yes but you must apply for one for the child go to ss office, the child gets a check, much smaller, and you open a bank account and be the payee for it, absolutely.
