Why is national security more important than individual privacy? |
what's a good point to stress on? please include sources thanks!!! it's much appreciated! we need national security to protect all of our rights...the 2 must go together hand in hand it's about safety and feeling secure wherever you go . It's about knowing your children will be safe 20 years from now . It's about coming together as a country and using whatever tools we have to defeat the enemy so we can go back to our normal lives It should not be. One should never be willing to give up their freedoms and liberties in the name of safety, as freedoms and liberty are what keep you safe. Sometimes national security and individual privacy are mutually exclusive. For example, the cellular phone network: you have a right to privacy, granted by the constitution and provided by the network provider. People that want to use this network to relay communications that threaten national security can only be caught by screening everyone's calls. Some might argue this invades their privacy (which I find somewhat non-sensical because it's extremely unlikely that a human operator ever reviews a conversation that has no importance). At the same time, you cannot provide this type of national security without a program like this. The alternative is to take your chances. It's not. |
