Introducing airport style security to railway stations?

Are we finally becoming a total police state? With ID cards for all, DNA databases for all, unlimited detention without trial for suspects.....where will it end? All in the name of "anti terror".
A police state that the SS or the Stazi would have been proud of?

Relax it will never happen, its just another lame brained diversionary tactic that will act as media fodder to draw peoples attention away from the Governments incompetence in Education ,Law & Order, NHS, Immigration and all the other things they are damaging.

Remember road charging, big brother, bird flu ,SARS, shortage of flu vaccine, Heathrow security? They all disappear when the media value expires, and then the next fantasy shows up.

If this is the price we have to pay for interfering in other peoples countries it's a price not worth paying.

It's nothing to do with terrorism and all to do with control of the people.

I'd welcome ANY type of security for railway stations in south Texas... heck, just hiring competent engineers would be nice.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, this government will not rest until we live in the England of V for Vendetta.

This government has invented for us the problems we are now receiving. At the moment it is in a mild form but in time it will expand. They can't help the radical changes to the constitution they are now forced to make, it's tit for tat with them.

I agree with one of the previous answers, if we hadn't joined in this war, then perhaps the terrorists would not be choosing the UK as a target.

All that may happen is extra security barriers and bags being screened, this doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have nothing to hide and I don't think that there is anything about the contents of my suitcase that would interest the police or anyone for that matter.

I am happy for this to happen and for train staff to be extra vigilant regarding terrorism. It is not only for my safety, but also for yours and that of your family and friends. Having your bags screened and such things is a small price to pay for safety.

Police State! More like Muppet State.

With extra security measures in place at stations you do not have to be Einstein to work out that there are a million and one places on the rail network where a high speed train could be de-railled without the perpetrators coming within miles of a railway station.

This proposal is typical "New Labour."spin !
The chance of this increase in the "State security system"achieving any improvement in safety for the population is non existent.
If the state is unable to stop illegal drug imports and dealing;or control immigration.
Why do they expect this to be worthwhile ?
