Why is social security number required to sell?

I don't like giveing out my SS # or DL lisence #, why is yahoo the only ones who require it. amazon and ebay does not ask you your #.

So you don't pose as another person to try and scam. Just say your from Canada.

They must be tracking your sales for tax purposes. I would email them and ask them why it is necessary to have your social security number.
