Legal advice what 2 do? My relative used my social security number when I was a child and now I owe the IRS $?

Lawyer friends help me out please. My older relative used my social security number when I was a child so that my relative could make extra money. But my relative didnt pay taxes on it so now I owe the IRS close to $10,000!!! I just found out as I am trying to pay taxes. I don't have money for a lawyer. How do I get justice or get my relative to pay? I got screwed over, what do I do now?

Call the police and or the IRS. Get her nailed. (Or him). You will have to tell them who it was to get out of it.

Edit: as to number one raiders fan, the best way to get into trouble it to lie to the IRS about not knowing. They will track down the relative and that person could get the questioner in trouble.

I work at a courthouse and I know that you dont have money but you can see a paralegal, they are wayyyyyy less expensive than attorneys thats the only way if you dont want to pay but its a tough one if they are related to you some attorney can help you too and not charge you any money unless you win your case so if you do go ahead with this make sure you add to the complaint (legal term) the money owed and they attorney costs that you will pay only if you win good luck!

You can call the IRS and say someone else used your number. It happens all the time. You don't have to pay taxes on money you did not earn.

I am not a lawyer. Only licensed lawyers can give legal advise.

Take your ID and birth certificate to show the IRS that you were a child when your relative used your Social Security number. That way you can prove that it wasn't you. They will probably want the name of your relative but if you don't want to get them in trouble then I would just tell them that you don't know who it was. I would also try to check your credit to make sure that they weren't using your social security number to get credit cards in your name also.
