Do u have to have a social security number even if u don't want social security benefits?

Do u have to have a social security number even if u don't want social security benefits?

Yup, and you've got to pay social security taxes too. Sorry!

Yes all jobs, and state related things require it.

you need it if you want to work legally in the u.s. and if you want to file taxes, and lots of other things...

If you work in most jobs, you don't have any choice about whether to have social security taxes taken out (I teach in a public school and I don't have it taken out, but they take retirement instead).

You can't do much legally without a social security number.

Yup! Notice Social Security Numbers are more often referred to as Tax Payer Identification number. You know why? Becuase that is what it is all about, paying taxes not having 'social' security...

legal citizenship is important

I don't think you have to have one, but if you refuse a social security number you can't own anything, work or really survive in america without one. sorry!

I know that many Indian tribes do not want to participate in the Social Security programs. They don't want to be involved in our medical and retirement programs. The United States has allowed them to freely choose what way they want to go. Other than that, the rest of us are mandatorily involved in the social security programming.

i think soo yep

Yu must have a social security number if you work in the US. If you do not work and do not want any benfits, you do not need one

yeah i dont think u can really get rid of it unless u give i to a forien alien =]

yes! you have to its law and who wouldn't want the befits any way what happens when you're 65 or 70 and you cant or don't want to work anymore .
