America now has a monstrous problem with "Dog Fighting", why is it penalties are not steeper to stop cruelty?

Dog Fighting is a felony with up to 4 years in some states, but with good behavior...people like Michael Vick will serve a year, then get out! Why not penalize and punish cruelty...make a mandatory 10 years minimum...must serve at least 10 years and forfeit any and all property the fighting took place on and 10 years probation, with a $100,000 fine, plus court costs! Why pamper these sick individuals...lock them up and throw away the key! The cruelty in "Dog Fighting" deserves no less! The real animals are those that profit from extreme cruelty! When is America going to make society responsible for its actions, instead of making up every excuse why they commit crimes and really had no choice because of some prior experience that compelled them to be a dysfunctional monster! What a bunch of bull crap! Agree or disagree? Why?

America could afford to lockup all criminals for longer times if it quit building hotels, instead of prisons that have all the benefits of home sweet home! Rehabilitation & punishment left the prison system thanks to the U.S. Courts! America is becoming more and more a nation of outlaw's...do not wonder why citizens are not safe on the streets! Pull this same criminal crap in other foreign countries and they directly deal with the lawbreakers and make people responsible for their own choices and actions! Here, the criminal justice system is broke and a joke!

These people are the Animals in this case. I believe the penalties would be more harsh if some of our lawmakers weren't profiteering from dog fighting.

I agree but the sad fact of it is no one really cares that much. Our prisons are over flowing already. If you ask anyone who is more deserving of being in jail, a rapist or a dog fighter, most people will go with the rapist. I'm not saying it isn't wrong but unfortunately its not a priority.

Dog fighting is a very minor part of an animal cruelty problem. Wasting a ton of time and money locking up people for longer times for animal cruelty than MURDER doesn't make sense to me.

Worse yet are those who apologize for these idiots (mostly black and hispanic) who say it's a part of their culture.
In what world? That's the lamest cop out and excuse I've ever heard and with no facts to back it up.
Cockfighting is rampant through out the latin countries but not dog fighting and neither is it a practiced form of combat in Africa.
These muttenheads who are apologists for stupidity should join these P'sOS in jail.
